What the world’s biggest websites looked like at launch

Old GoogleMashable has created a gallery revealing how some of the world’s biggest websites looked like on the day of their launch.

As the Internet is a world of constant innovation, it is hard to picture what it looked like in the Nineties.

It is even harder to imagine treasured websites we all use today.

Mashable, with the help of the Wayback Machine, allows us to view the original designs of famous websites such as Google, YouTube, and Facebook.

Take a look at the gallery here and tell us what you think about it.

The Think Tank shortlisted for Best Branding and Positioning Award

AluK Branding and MarketingThe Think Tank has been shortlisted in the Construction Marketing Awards 2013 for our work with AluK (GB) Ltd.

We have been working with this leading aluminium building systems manufacturer since November 2012, supporting them across all their marketing activities following the launch of the AluK brand in the UK in April 2013.

We have been shortlisted again this year in the Best Branding and Positioning category, a category that we won last year for our work with Rexel.

Having worked with AluK to define the brand messages and values for the UK marketplace, we then developed a strategy for the launch and ongoing marketing of the brand and its products to both the trade and specification marketplaces.

Fingers crossed for the results, which will be announced at an industry event on 5th December in London.

Blinkbox unleash giant dragon skull

Dragon Skull

Dragon Skull

In a stunt of epic proportions a giant dragon skull, the size of a London bus, has appeared on Dorset’s famed jurassic coast. This was to honour the arrival of a Game of Thrones Season 3 on streaming service Blinkbox.

Dog-walkers and fossil hunters alike were stopped in their tracks at the site of this monstrous construction. The skull was designed by Taylor Herring PR who only this month were responsible for the arrival of a giant Mr Darcy in Hyde Park. It took three sculptors over two months to construct carve and paint the skull, which measures 40 ft long and sits over 9 ft tall.

This beach stunt was inspired by a Game of Thrones scene where one of the leading characters discovers dragon skulls in the depths of the dungeons in Kings Landing.

Tell us your thoughts on this mythical beach invasion, or you can watch this video below about how it was made, or read more about it here.

A new name in Aluminium Building Systems

AluK LogoThe Think Tank has been working with global aluminium building products group, AluK, to bring the brand to the UK following the purchase of Blyweert Beaufort.

Through the development of the brand identity in the UK and an integrated marketing strategy the introduction of the new brand has been a great success.

Over the past few months The Think Tank developed a range of collateral and marketing tools for AluK, ready for the launch in April 2013. This included a sophisticated web site that engages target audiences and provides them with the information they require to specify and purchase AluK products. This is already delivering results through lead generation.

The Think Tank organised a launch event for customers and the press at the beginning of April and has introduced the brand through a combination of PR, Advertising, eDM and Social Media, building brand awareness and encouraging enquiry. This has seen immediate results for AluK and has started to develop a new positioning for the group that offers a complete range of aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling systems.

We are continuing to develop the marketing strategy for the group and to raise awareness of the brand through a variety of marketing channels. This include engagement and support for existing customers as well as the launch of a wide range of new products over the coming months.
