Quaint postcards ‘predicting’ the future

Depictions of the future tend to range from the spot-on to the ridiculous, but some of the most intriguing appear in a set of French artistic postcards from the turn of the century.

From 1899 to 1910, French artist Jean-Marc Côté predicted how the year 2000 would look through his designs for cigarette box inserts and postcards.

Looking at them today, some of the images seem a little far-fetched, but others aren’t too far from the truth.

The quaint scenes include roller skates and industrial farming…but also firefighters using wings and a whale bus.

Take a look at some of the postcards here and tell us what you think of them.
