BrandIndex Top 10 Brands

BBC iPlayerJohn LewisBrands top 10YouGov Brandindex has released the rankings for Top 10 Brands of 2012. BBC iPlayer has manged to knock Amazon out of the top spot, effectively swapping places compared to last year, John Lewis has managed to do the same to Marks & Spencer, moving up from 5th last year to 2nd this year.

It may come as little surprise that Amazon are no longer No.1 after it recently came to light that they were one of several large companies allegedly avoiding paying UK Taxes, which has also hit coffee chain Starbucks, who are currentlly trying to salvage their reputation through promotional activity following the revelation.

In terms of most improved  brands, British Airways are in the top spot for the second year running, with British Gas 2nd and BP 3rd. In terms of the most improved it seems that energy companies have been working hard to improve their ranking and it has had a major effect, with them taking 5 of the Top 10.

The Rankings compare BrandIndex Buzz scores for over 850 brands in 34 categories, to reveal the Top 10 UK brands with the best Buzz in 2012 as well as Top 10 most improved brands of the year. All of the brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz scores. Buzz asks respondents: “If you’ve heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?”. BrandIndex interviews 2,000 nationally representative respondents daily.
