Plaza celebrates birthday with spectacular ‘cake’

Makoto Azuma filled over a hundred large jars with water and real flowers, which were leftover from a nearby florist. The brightly coloured jars were then arranged into the shape of a six-tiered cake for the Imperial Hotel Plaza in Tokyo, where the installation stood for a month to celebrate the Plaza’s 30th birthday.
Specialising in installations featuring plants, Azuma has been a flower artist since 2005 and now has his own experimental laboratory. He also owns an haute-couture flower shop and has run a private gallery.
